YORKTOWN YOUTH SOCCER CLUB

TRAVEL “PLAY UP” POLICY

(Revised 4/26/06)

The Yorktown Youth Soccer Club believes that it is generally preferable that children play within their own age group.  This is especially important in the younger years when the Club will implement a comprehensive training program that is both age and developmentally appropriate.  Also, the Club believes it is highly desirable for players to interact with their social peers.

General Guidelines

  • The Club policy is that all travel children must play on age appropriate teams (those defined by their date of birth) unless they are approved in accordance with this policy to "play up".

  • All requests to "play up" are for the current year only. If a member has played up in the past, they must reapply and follow all procedures in this policy. All applications are treated as new requests.  Previous years' decisions or credentials do not carry forward except those decisions grandfathered by the Board of Directors.

  • Any attempt to circumvent or violate the procedures or intent of this policy will be viewed as serious misconduct. The Club reserves the right to discipline (including expulsion) any member (player, parent, coach, official, board member) found to have contributed to such misconduct.

Tryouts

  • Applicants approved for tryouts must attend their age appropriate tryout and if approved by the Head Coach, the applicant will be permitted to tryout for the older age group.

Club Assessment

  • The appropriate Travel Commissioner, Coach and Head Coach will verify the applicant’s suitability and ability to play on the older team, as well as assess any other issues that impact the Club.

  • The decision must be a 2/3 majority vote or the application will not be approved.

  • All applicants will be informed in writing by the Travel Commissioner whether they are approved to play for the older age group.

Appeals

All decisions made under this policy are final.  There will be no appeals.
